Concepts of induction
The introduction of new entrants into any existing group of people has been a
common feature we come across in our everyday life. When a person joins a new
job, they need an introduction to the job and the organization. This
introduction called induction. Induction is also known as orientation and
indoctrination. A new entrant joins an organization as a stranger to his
co-worker, job, and organization. For the new entrant, this creates initial
anxiety. It may often lead to the new employee’s unexpected resignation. Hence, arrangements need to
be made to make the integration of the new employee into the organization smooth and as free of anxiety as possible.
Induction helps do so.
Objectives
of induction
Induction helps reduce such anxieties and dispels doubts and nervousness from the mind of the new entrant. Therefore, an induction programme is designed to achieve the following objectives:
- To reduce the initial anxiety of all new entrants, feel when they join a new job in a new organization.
- To familiarize the new employees with the job, people, workplace, work environment, and organization.
- To facilitate outsider-insider transition
in an integrated manner.
- To reduce exploitation by the unscrupulous
co-workers.
- To reduce the cultural shock faced in the
new organization.
Benefits

cultural shock new employee undergoes on joining a new organization.

the new employees into the organization and fosters the feeling of
belongingness to the new organization.

nervousness, absenteeism, turnover and improvement in employee morale are the

I agree with the author, induction process is designed to ensure that the new employees settle into their employment easily to enable them to become effective as soon as possible. As Induction policy is largely the responsibility of HR, author could have put on more value to the article by adding HR role in induction. Well written article.
ReplyDeleteInduction is the process of receiving and welcoming employees when they first join a
ReplyDeletecompany and giving them the basic information they need to settle down quickly and
happily and start work (Northouse, 2016).
Induction has four aims:
● to smooth the preliminary stages when everything is likely to be strange and
unfamiliar to the starter;
● to establish quickly a favorable attitude to the company in the mind of the new
employee so that he or she is more likely to stay;
● to obtain effective output from the new employee in the shortest possible time;
● to reduce the likelihood of the employee leaving quickly
The prime aim of an induction session is to guarantee a successful integration of the employees and the management. Research has also shown that a well-planned induction programme increases staff retention. It is important for the new employees to get a proper idea of the organization’s values and objectives, and the job they are required to do.
